Colonel Peter K Harris is the Deputy Group Commander of the 254th Combat Communications Group (CCG), Hensley Field, Dallas, TX. He assumed this position in May 2011. Colonel Harris is presently filling an active duty role as a Senior Duty Officer with the 624th Operations Center, Lackland AFB, San Antonio, Texas, overseeing all cyberspace operations in defense of the Air Force portion of the Department of Defense Information network.

Colonel Harris began his Air National Guard career in 1984. This decision came eight years after completing a four year tour with the US Army where he was assigned to the Army Security Agency as a Crypto Specialist. During this eight year absence from military service, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry (Magna cum Laude) from Armstrong Atlantic State University, Savannah, Georgia in 1979 and a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1981. As a member of the 283rd Combat Communications Squadron (CBCS), Savannah, GA. he received his commission in December 1985 through the Academy of Military Science, McGhee-Tyson Air National Guard Base, Knoxville, TN.

Colonel Harris is employed as a chemical engineer by General Electric, Inc., responsible for all facility maintenance and capital project work at GE Water & Process Technology plants in Orange and Beaumont, TX. He currently resides in San Antonio, TX where he attends Freedom Chapel on Lackland AFB. He and his wife Beth have two children. His daughter Jessica resides in Jacksonville, FL with her husband Alan Stepaniak, while son Daniel is completing his studies at Texas A&M University, San Antonio, TX.
